What’s your favourite of your father’s past material (both solo songs/Queen songs & album)?
The Game is my favourite Queen album, but I like lots of them. I think Happiness? Was my dad’s best solo work, but what do I know at the end of the day, eh?
Do you have any particularly funny or poignant memories of Freddie, Brian or John?
Many, but I was very young at the time. I was at Live Aid; don’t remember it to be honest, but proud of that. Freddie was always very kind to me when I was small. They’re all very nice guys.
Would you be willing/happy/excited to perform this song live, should you ever get the opportunity?
You bet, very nervous if it came to that, but that’s the exciting bit!
Do you recall the incident that led to Arty writing Radio Ga Ga, and are you proud of providing the original inspiration for that track?
Proud if it’s true. I supposedly said the radio was a load of bla bla. I’m told it is true, but I was two so it’s not the clearest memory I have, and I have a sneaky suspicion that the story is apocryphal.
What is your day to day profession?
I work in an office, as a communications person. The people are very nice, but like all office jobs it’s dead boring – best job I’ve had so far though (got to say this to cover my back).
What was the best concert you ever attended?
Best show was Pink Floyd on their Division Bell tour. Foo Fighters are great live and I’m looking forward to seeing Muse in November. Loved going to Drum and Bass nights as a student in Brighton. Have to say that the best gig I’ve ever been to was a weird dancehall night in a concrete room in the Virgin Islands six years ago. PA was terrible, didn’t plan to go, didn’t know what it was or where we were, but it was sweaty and it was great!
Do you think that being a son of a famous musician can be a curse or a blessing when you are trying to make it yourself in the business?
Definitely not a curse. I haven’t really been trying to make it until now. Was just lucky to be asked to sing for this tune my dad was doing, and would like to follow it up if it gets anywhere.
What’s your reaction when you see old pictures of your dad in 70s outfits?
Cut him some slack – it was the time, and when in Rome…
Any other hidden talents other than singing?
I’ve written a children’s book for the older end of the market and been trying to get an agent, but no luck so far. Writing an occult thriller for adults at the moment. I think I’m talented, but who knows?
Will there be more projects in the future? If so a father and son vocal duet would be amazing…
I certainly want to produce much more material, but it depends on whether the response to this track justifies another venture. It’s all up to you lot really.
